Nothing is more important to a 4 year old than being as close as he can get to his uncle and playing a game on his iPad. Nothing is more important to me than to watch this relationship between nephew and uncle grow.

I went back and forth on how I was going to tell our kids and Nicholas about Melvin’s return. My first thought was we would all go to the airport to see him. Coordinating Melvin’s arrival time with everyone’s schedule was turning into a nightmare, especially when the time and date for Melvin to return was constantly changing.
So, on to the next option. I would go to pick him up at the airport in Kentucky and we would surprise everyone the next day. I finally got the time and date of return and everything was going so well. Tre had an Actuarial dinner in Carmel the night Melvin was going to come home. I told Tre he had to spend the night at home instead of returning to school that night. I called Beth’s boss as well as talked to the principal at Lawrence Christian to let them know the plan. Everyone was so excited! It would be late when I got back home with Melvin, but still a good plan. Tre would see him that night and we would surprise Beth and Nicholas the next day at their schools! PERFECT!!
Or so I thought! All the details were straight in my head. I would go to work, leave early, head to Kentucky, finally see my honey, and make the trip back home to surprise Tre. I was so excited the morning of the November 15th… that’s all I wanted to talk was leaving early and going to get Melvin. That is until I got an email from Melvin stating it was snowing really hard in Afghanistan and his flight was delayed. Okay, so a minor set back. That was until I received another email that the flight was going to be a 3 hour delay so that the plane could get de-iced. Oh no! That meant he wasn’t going to leave Afghanistan on the 15th as planned.
So, I called everyone back to tell the of the delay! Later that night I got word from Melvin that he would be leaving on the 16th, same flight information. Okay… I can work with that. I went to Kentucky and finally I was able to hug, kiss, touch, kiss again my honey. I was beyond excited to see him!
The next morning we set out for Operation Surprises! Our first stop was to see Nicholas. The staff at Lawrence Christian were so helpful and were just as excited as we were. There were very helpful in setting the stage for the surprise. I walked in the room and Ms. Cozart said, Nicholas someone is here to see you. Just as Nicholas looked up, his Pawpaw walked in the room. Nicholas’ eyes were really big and he said, “PAWPAW”!!!
He ran to his Pawpaw….
Nicholas taking another look… just to make sure it really was his Pawpaw!

Nicholas holding on…not wanting his Pawpaw to leave him again!

Beth and Tre was so excited and we are all so blessed and thankful to have him home. Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers!

I have tried to write this post 3 times and each time I stop because of the tears that fill my eyes and eventually slowly fall down my face making it hard to see the screen! Those tears are not due to sadness but because of joy, happiness and love that I have for my mother. She is definitely a jewel! Her love is limitless and felt by everyone that knows her. Her wisdom and guidance is extended to all that is willing to listen. I am so proud to call her my mother!
Last week my mom came to visit and of course I had to get a few pictures of her. She resisted at first, but then I had to put the guilt trip on her! She finally caved in, especially when I told I wanted to take pictures of her and Tre together…grandson and grandmother bonding. I knew that would get her…anything involving the grandkids and she’s all in!
To see the two of them interacting and being silly was just as much a pleasure and the pictures themselves. Tre truly loves and confides in his grandmother. They are always laughing about something he said or a text she sent him!
These pictures melt my heart…
Just a few more pictures…
